The Australian Rugby League Development and the WA Rugby League are pleased to offer interested schools an alternative to the usual sporting curriculum. Rugby League programs are currently being conducted in over 250 schools throughout Perth and is available in 2 formats as outlined below.
‘Leaguetag’ is a modified version of Rugby League, developed specifically for school students new to our game. This game highlights NO CONTACT and encourages full participation by both boys and girls, and also helps to develop team and individual interaction as well as physical coordination refinement.
Rugby League is also available to schools in its’ true tackle format with all sessions conducted under supervision in a controlled and fun environment. As part of this program the WA Rugby League (WARL) in partnership with School Sport WA (SSWA) each year select an Under 12’s State team to represent Western Australia at the National Primary School Exchange in August
Clinics are usually conducted in a 2 – 3 week block and are FREE OF CHARGE.

WESTERN AUSTRALIAN RUGBY LEAGUE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS AND CARNIVALS 2009
COMPETITIONS:
ARL DEVELOPMENT STATE CUP – This is our major Leaguetag Competition which involves over 170 teams throughout W.A. Lightning Carnivals are held in 13 districts around Perth during Terms I and II with the winners of each carnival invited into the State Cup Final held in August. Most of these carnivals are run as part of the local PSSA Winter Sports Carnival involving schools in your cell group. The WARL coordinates and runs all carnivals for your convenience. Extra carnivals can also be coordinated for schools that do not have Leaguetag as an alternative in their Winter Sports Carnival. All carnivals in 2009 will incur a cost of $1 per student.
LEGENDS CUP / NATIONAL PRIMARY SCHOOL EXCHANGE – The WARL in conjunction with ARL Development will again be running ‘tackle’ rugby league carnivals in Term I. Known as the ‘Legends Cup’, this competition will involve Year 6 and Year 7 boys and girls in an 8-a-side tackle format. Carnivals are played in 7 districts across Perth and run from 9.45am until 12.45pm. All games are played under the National Safeplay Code and Mod League rules. These carnivals will also be used to identify players for the Western Australian Primary School Rugby League Team for 2009 to compete in the National Primary School Exchange. Cost is $1 per student.

DEVELOPMENT CLINICS – 2 – 3 week programs for students of all ages. Available as lead-up clinics for carnivals or skill development for students. Free of charge. Great for introductory lessons - both Leaguetag and Tackle rugby league clinics are available.
GALA DAYS – The WARL will run Gala Days for your school or as an inter-school competition. The Gala Days are a great way to finish your Development Clinic program or as a way to assess your students’ skills. Cost is $1 per student. Every student will receive a small gift from ARL Development for their participation.
