HE SPENT three years lost to rugby league when work forced his family across the Nullarbor 13 years ago.
Come Sunday, Jon Green aims to make his Perth homecoming a coming of age as the Dragons front-rower launches his campaign to fill the boots of departed Origin prop Justin Poore in 2010.
The rival bookends will go head-to-head in Sunday's trial match with Green to be given first shot to partner Michael Weyman in the Dragons' engine room in what will be Poore's debut for the Parramatta Eels. The 24-year-old started a handful of first grade games in an injury-disrupted 2009 in what he admits was a breakthrough season and now believes he has turned the corner from fringe first grader.
"Everyone is pushing to get that spot," Green said. "Dan Hunt is in the front running. He played every game last year. There are a lot Parramatta's Justin Poore
of guys like Michael Greenfield and Trent Merrin and Ricky Thorby.
We are all going to have a good crack at it this year so there's a lot of competition."
The Eels squad will feature Poore, Kiwi international Krisnan Inu, as well as Kris Keating, Jeff Robson and Daniel Mortimer.
